mama robin

This is the fourth year in a row that we have had a robin build a nest somewhere in our yard, and we've been able to witness the eggs laid in the nest, and watch from a small distance the whole process of incubation and hatching and eventual leaving the nest. It's been a really fun spring activity for us. This year we came home after having been gone for 5 1/2 days in Vegas, to the realization that we had yet another robin's nest in our backyard. We were very surprised to see the location of the nest. It has been quite a challenge for this mama bird to stay on top of her eggs, as she is spooked every single time we pass by, which is very frequent, especially in the evenings, and on the weekends. The jury is still out as to whether or not the babies will hatch. It's been fun to have it so visually close, but sad at the same time, because there's no way to have a conversation with the mama and tell her that we present no threat, and she should feel just as safe as anywhere to sit there a top her eggs without any worry.
